This summer I watched the Olympic surfing held in Tahiti. In each heat, surfers get around half an hour to catch as many waves as they can. The judges score them based on their speed, the power of the wave, and the variety in their technique, and their two best scores are combined for their final score.
This is a useful metaphor for how I try to evaluate myself at the end of the year.
