In times of togetherness, our respect for the individuality of others can fly out the window. Our anxiety needs somewhere to live, and it often resides in our criticism, our prodding, our imagining how others could make better choices or annoy us less.

I understand the argument that it’s exhausting to work on yourself over the holidays. Don’t we deserve a break? But working on everybody else is no break. Your automatic way of functioning can be more exhausting than spending a little bit of time thinking about how you want to manage yourself.

So without further ado, here is my holiday guide for those who tend to overfunction.
